Advantages of Engineered Stair Parts

Our step and riser engineered stair parts are manufactured from solid wood and the timber is sourced from sustainably managed forests.  The wooden steps have a worldwide patent and this unique patented process guarantees that the stair parts won’t twist or warp over time.  The steps and risers are available in 1000mm and 1200mm lengths in white oak and walnut.

The steps and risers are constructed entirely from solid wood, which is engineered and assembled to make a superior end product.  The process ensures that the stair parts have a consistent look, both in terms of colour and grain variations, which ensures a superior finished staircase that will enhance any entrance.  The traditional tread manufacturing process cannot deliver this consistency or quality demanded in today’s market.  The traditional method using planks has a high waste factor, which can make the end product very expensive.

The engineered steps have a unique internal finger jointed structure secured in a cross frame, glued and jointed at 90° at each end of the steps.  This cross frame gives the step its rigidity and stops the step, which is 270mm wide, from cupping.  Cupping or twisting can be a problem with traditional solid one or two piece steps.

The bullnose front edge of the step is made using one continuous piece of solid wood.  The surfaces of the steps have only one joint of solid wood 2.5mm thick with an “A” and “B” side.  This over veneering on both surfaces balances the step.  The top or “A” side is perfectly matched for colour and grain.  The bottom or “B” side has a minor colour variation as this will not be seen.

Our Walnut engineered products are made exactly with the same process with the added advantage of a light walnut stain which ensures a consistent colour throughout the step.  All engineered products are supplied to customer’s cellophane wrapped and enclosed in a cardboard box for added protection during transit.
