Case Study: Staircase Project with Concrete Staircase, Solid Oak Steps and Matrix Metal Spindle Collection

In this recent collaboration, two experienced joiners – Ciaran from CrossCut Carpentry and Anthony from Inniskeen Joinery Works – transformed a structural concrete staircase into a refined architectural feature using our stair parts.

The Story

This project was completed for a private residence, where the homeowners decided to go for a contemporary look of metal spindles and warm oak. The projects was done with a full stair cladding system using our 44mm solid oak steps, specifically designed for installation over concrete stairs. This approach enabled the joiners to retain the structural base while achieving the aesthetic and quality of solid timber.

For the balustrade, components from our Matrix metal staircase range were specified. The clean lines of the Matrix Round metal plain spindles, paired with a Matrix oak handrail from the same collection, created a look that balances contemporary detailing with timeless appeal – an ideal combination for a busy family home. To anchor the design visually and structurally, the newel base was selected from our Square collection, providing a subtle yet strong foundation for the overall staircase design.
